John Ensign, our Nevada Senator, got himself into a political "pickle" this past week and it just keeps getting worse and worse. Below are six questions you need to answer concerning this issue. I lead you in the general direction of articles but there are many more across the world wide web. Good job last week and if you know of certain people that have still not signed up, let them know that we are in full swing. I expect a lot of discussion on this topic because it greatly affects our state and Senator Ensign's standing among the political community. Have fun and answers will start be accepted Monday and will be frozen on Wednesday but the comments can be placed all summer long. The only answer that has a length requirement is the last question and it should be 2 paragraphs in length.
1. What elected position does John Ensign presently hold?
2. When was he first elected to this position?
3. What office did he hold prior to 2000?
4. In the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, how did John Ensign vote in the impeachment process?
5. To what did John Ensign admit to on June 16, 2009 and why did he admit to it?
6. In your opinion, what should John Ensign do and why? BE SPECIFIC

1)John Ensign currently holds the present role as the 24th U.S. Senator for Nevada.
ReplyDelete2)He was first elected into U.S. Senate November 7, 2000 and then on re-elected in November of 2006.
3)Prior to 2000 he served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, from 1995-1999.
4/5)John Ensign admitted to his wife Darlene that he had "violated the vows of our marriage", adding that it was "absolutely the worst thing I have ever done in my life". Mr Ensign did not name his former mistress, but a statement from his office said that from Dec 2007 to Aug 2008, Mr Ensign had a "consensual affair" with a campaign staffer who was "married to an official Senate staffer". Mr Ensign, who belongs to a Christian ministry called Promise Keepers that promotes "godly manhood", denounced Mr Clinton as a "disgrace" during the Monica Lewinsky scandal and said: "He has no credibility left". Yikes, hypocrite or human, that is a thin line!
6) I feel as though John only has one choice to redeem himself, basically apologize and admit that he made a mistake, admit that he was wrong in judging one of our past presidents. In fact, I do feel this may just be a human error. How many time have we said "Oh that will NEVER happen to ME", when looking at someone elses situation? And commontime it does end up happening to the best of us for that reason. I look at it as a "reap what you sow" kind of thing. Its fate that you experience almost that same situation you so aimlessly judged. So in this case, I won't blame John because this was his first time that I am aware of. But the nest time he engages in "consensual affair" he will easily fall under the "Hypocrite" category.
1. John Ensign currently our Nevada Senator.
ReplyDelete2. He won his seat in 2000.
3. Prior to 2000, he held the position of a Congressman.
4. John Ensign voted to impeach Clinton.
5. John Ensign admitted to having an extra-martial affair. He admitted to it because it would have come out by the "victims" of the affair, and they were allegedly going to extort money from him.
6. I don't think John Ensign should do anything, i think that in all honesty its totally fine that he had an affair. In my opinion, this doesn't affect his political life at all. I believe he did what he had to do, and to me that shows a lot of character that he did in-fact admit to it. I really don't think that it is such a big problem, i mean clinton had a affair, sure they were threatening impeachment, but it never happened because he is just human, and people were willing to see the big picture, meaning that it didn't effect the way he would run the country.
If i was a voting citizen, i would still vote for him because it his is personal life, and it should stay personal, it shouldn't effect its political life. Just because he had an affair, that doesn't mean his political outlook has changed after the affair. Overall, i think John Ensign should be given a second chance, we gave many political figures plenty of chances. For example, when clinton had an affair, he was given a second chance and he was president. I don't think impeaching our senator will do any good. I mean what about our Govenor? He had accusations put against him for sexual connotations against a women, i mean he used the company phone to love talk with his alleged girlfriend, now thats something to get mad at! But we as Americans forget that, instead we get crazy over obama killing the fly.
1.John Ensign is currently Nevada's senator.
ReplyDelete2.Ensign was first elected to be senator in 2000.
3.Prior to 2000, Ensign served as a memeber in the U.S. House of Representatives.
4.John Ensign voted for the impeachment of Clinton in the notorious Clinton-Lewinsky scandal.
5.On June 16, 2009, John Ensign admitted to an extramarital affair with a former staffer and close family friend,Cynthia Hampton. He admitted to the affair because the Hampton couple tried to extort money from Ensign.
6.John Ensign should keep his head held high and stay in office. Yes, he had an affair but so do many people around the world. He is only human, he isnt perfect. An affair is a terrible and hurtful thing to do to someone but unfortunately these things do happen. He, like many people, gave in to something called tempation.Presidents of top companies have affairs but do they step down?
Ensign shouldn't resign because of this, it's absurd. Some people are saying he should resign because of this and some others are saying he should resign for his vote for the Clinton impeachment;again I must say RIDICULOUS. It already happened,he can't do anything about it, no one can.He has been good to Nevada, why let him step down?
ohh..and to think about it.look he gave something new for people to talk about;) thanks Ensign.
1. John Ensign presently holds the Republican position in the U.S. Senate, but he is also involved in more committees in the state of Nevada such as: Budget, Rules & Administration, Finance and many more.
ReplyDelete2. John Ensign was first elected to the U.S. Senate for the 107th Congress in 2000 and he was re-elected to U.S. Senate for the 110th Congress in 2006.
3. John Ensign was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, 1st District from 1995 until 1999.
4. In the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, John Ensign voted for the impeachment of President Bill Clinton after Ensign condemned Clinton of such actions.
5. John Ensign admitted publicly that he had an “alleged” affair with a former campaign aide from December 2007 to August 2008. It is unclear whether Ensign admitted that he had an affair because Douglas and Cynthia Hampton had tried to extort money from him or because the Hamptons tried to approach Fox News Network for help to investigate the “alleged” affair. However, Fox News Network continues to deny that they tried to tipped off Ensign to tell all about the “alleged” affair.
6.Well, in my opinion, I think John Ensign should resign or be impeach because governmental representatives should not be involved in such “unethical actions”. Ensign is mature enough to know the consequences that come with an affair. Also, he continues to hide from TV networks, who are trying to show us the truth. Instead, Ensign should stop hiding and confront the consequences he chose to face.
He doesn’t deserve such high rank in government anymore and I would say that the best to resolve this issue is for John Ensign to resign from his position. He needs to let somebody else more experienced and responsible take his position as soon as possible. I believe the State of Nevada needs to be represented in U.S. Senate in a more ethical way. In other words, John Ensign should give up his position! That is my opinion and I will respect other people’s opinions as well
1. John Ensign is currently a Senator of the state of Nevada.
ReplyDelete2. Ensign was elected to his position during the Senate election of 2000.
3. Prior to 2000, Sen. Ensign was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for the state of Nevada.
4. Ensign voted in favor of President Clinton's impeachment, stating, "He has no credibility left."
5. On June 16, 2009, Sen. Ensign admitted to having an extramarital affair. Some sources claim that he announced the affair after being blackmailed by the husband of his former mistress; however, Ensign's office denies that his announcement was made in an effort to avoid extortion. Instead, most reports suggest that Ensign's revelation came on the coattails of a letter sent to a Fox New correspondent from the husband of Ensign's former mistress, requesting an investigation.
6. In my opinion, Senator Ensign has already made strides toward reconciling his personal failure with his duty to the public. I am impressed with the fact that he chose to announce the affair himself before the media was able to construct a three ring circus around the lives of Ensign, his mistress, and their families. I believe that Sen. Ensign should continue on the path he is on by being fully open and honest with the people. His initiative in coming forward with this information is definitely something I would expect of someone in his position. However, the fact that his announcement was made for fear of a far bigger, far more harmful announcement from someone else, almost dismisses what little courage might be found in his confession.
Although I am thoroughly disgusted by Senator Ensign’s affair and each accompanying shade of scandal, I do not think that he should resign. I believe that he should spend the next year walking on egg shells and apologizing to everyone who will listen, but resigning at this time will only add further harm to his public image. The Republican Party is going through a trying time, and while his affair does not add color to the Republican identity, his resignation will only further the party’s pitfall into an abyss entirely void of character and integrity. His behavior is inexcusable and should be acknowledged as such, but I believe he should stand his ground. He is not the first politician to have engaged in an extramarital affair, nor will he be the last. Instead of allowing this scandal to leave his career and personal life in shambles, he should accept his failure, make a sincere apology to everyone involved, and move on.
1. He is presently the Senator of Nevada.
ReplyDelete2. He was first elected to this position in 2000.
3. Prior to 2000, he was a member of the House of Representatives.
4. John Ensign truly denounced the Clinton- Lewinsky scandal as an embarrassing moment for the country. In the impeachment process, John Ensign definitely voted to impeach President Clinton in 1998.
5. On June 16, 2009, John Ensign admitted that he was involved in an extramarital affair with one of his campaign staff, Cindy Hampton.
According to some of the articles I read, Ensign confessed about his affair so that the blackmailers would no longer hold revenge over him.
6. In my opinion, I believe it is just ethical for him to apologize to the public for being a total hypocrite. Referring to the articles I read about his opinion towards Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, he feels sad for Hillary and Chelsea. Now, I think he should be sad for himself because I know he knows that he is devastated and has surely ruined his reputation to all Americans.
I also believe it would be better if he resigns because he is just a disgrace to his family. Because if he doesn't, whenever his family sees him on television, they will just remember the immorality he has done. It's just not worth remembering it. He is Senator; he should be ashamed of himself for being a horrible example to the youth and other politicians. He is a politician, and we all know that politicians are supposed to be good examples to everyone. We don't need that kind of politician in our government, therefore, it's better for him to get out of his position.

1. The elected position John Ensign holds in this moment is the Senator of Nevada.
ReplyDelete2. John Ensign ran for a position in the Senate in 1998, but lost. Ensign won his position as Senator of Nevada in November 7, 2000.
3. The office John Ensign hold prior in 2000 was in the House of Representatives.
4. In the impeachment process, John Ensign voted to impeach the former president, Bill Clinton.
5. On June 16, 2009, John Ensign admitted an affair with a campaign staffer. The reason he admitted to this scandal was because he got blackmailed from Cynthia Hampton or her husband, and they demanded they wanted money so they didn’t spill the beans about this affair.
6. I’m no one to critique about a person’s action but I’m impressed that he did admitted it. But, I actually have in mind if Hampton didn’t blackmailed him at all probably he will had been quiet and wouldn’t had admitted anything in the first place. I don’t believe people should interfere his personal life with his professional life though because we are all human beings and I have to say we all commit mistakes. I believe he does have to pay for his action’s, like any other human being.
In my personal opinion, John Ensign should just apologize because after all this is only between him and his family. The reason I say this is between him and his wife is because they are two adults that I think can actually fix the consequences that are going to be coming down the road. But, what I’m seeing the media are just going to be talking and talking over again about Ensign’s immorality action’s. I just believe he should be responsible for his actions that’s all.
1. John Ensign is currently the senator of Nevada.
ReplyDelete2.He was first elected to the Senate seat in Nevada in 2000.
3.Before 2000, he was a member of the House of Representatives.
4.He voted for President Clinton to be impeached. He thought of Clinton's affair as an "embarrassing moment for the country",and definitely denounced it.
5.On June 16, 2009, Senator John Ensign confessed to having an affair with a member of his staff, also a former family friend. It's believed that he finally admitted to this affair because the husband of his mistress was blackmailing him. Ensign says that it's not true, but it's highly debatable.
6.From my point of view, it seems as if Senator Ensign is lying. He came down on Clinton's affair, but he endep up commiting the same crime. He's a hypocrite. If he really wanted to admit to the affair, he would have done it as soon as it ended in 2008. The fact that he's confessing now makes it seem like he is actually being blackmailed. The funny thing about all this is that both families were friends until this whole incident.
I think Senator Ensign should make a public apology to the people he hurt by this big mistake. Instead of continuing to pretend it's not all his fault, he should just sorry. Everybody makes a mistake. Even though his got him into a lot of trouble, I believe people will still forgive him. There will be much talk about the situation, but that will soon blow over.
Good ole' John Ensign is currently a Senator for the State of Nevada and has been since November 7th of the year 2000. Prior to becoming a Senator, he served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives (1st District) from 1995 to 1999. In that whole Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, Ensign voted against Clinton/for his impeachment. (oh, the irony).
ReplyDeleteJust a few weeks ago, Ensign admitted to having an affair with a former staff member. It is unknown why he has suddenly come out with that declaration, but it is speculated that the other party involved in the extramarital affair and her husband tried to commit extortion.
I would say he should resign his seat from Senate, but no! I wouldn't have wanted Clinton to resign just because of that whole "I did not have sexual relations with that woman!" However, I am a firm believer that what a politician does in your personal life, with another consenting adult, should be their business and I believe that in no way, does that affect their ability to uphold their responsibilities as an elected official.
Unless there is evidence to the contrary, then said politician should resign. We cannot have inefficiency in the American government because some unfaithful person decided to go cheat on their spouse. I shall have none of it! At least Ensign came forward and took responsibility for his actions instead of saying something like, "She got me drunk and seduced me... seduced me, I say!"
My comment is on behalf of Erica Arnolds’ blog to Senator Ensign’s unfortunate extramarital affair. I completely support her comments in what has occurred in reference to Mr. Ensign’s personal issue. Erica is correct when she said that Mr. Ensign’s actions are “inexcusable”. I have personally met Senator Ensign and based on what I have learned I do believe he has made a significant mistake and he truly regrets it. As for his political future I also agree with Erica’s response. His future should not be completely tarnished as his prior actions have already proven him a worthy political leader. I am not attempting to justify his actions only to allow others to see that he’s not all bad.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately Senator Ensign truly has made a major mistake in the eyes of his constituencies and other political rivals who will definitely bring this up again. Since high profile politicians are being watched it’s hard to believe the he would engage in such a low unmoral act. Erica is also right in that the Republican Party is going through some trying times. As we’ve seen in recent news reports several political leaders like Ensign and most recently South Carolina’s Governor Mark Sanford who was also involved in the same way. I believe every one needs to uphold a sense of integrity and honesty especially those in the political spectrum.
This is directed at Erica Arnold's comment.
ReplyDeleteShe said she should not have wanted Ensign to resign, yet when we were debating on that Clinton scandal, she said President Clinton should have been impeached because he cheated on his wife, never did she mention anything in regards to Clinton committing perjury and an obstruction of justice throughout the debate until someone mentioned it. Just curious, but why would she change her opinion on cheating politician husbands now when it concerns the republican John Ensign?
1. John Ensign is currently serving as our Nevada Senator.
ReplyDelete2. He won his seat in the year 2000.
3.John Ensign held an office in the House of Representatives, prior being a senator.
4. John Ensign voted to impeach Clinton.
5. Senator John Ensign confessed to having an affair with aformer family friend and member of his staff. It is led to believe that he admitted to this affair because he was gonna be blackmailed by the husband of whom he was cheating with.
6. In my opinion what you do in your private life should have nothign to do with the politics. If you have an affair big deal, millions of people around the world sleep around and you don't see them quitting their jobs. If he has been a good Senator to our state why should he step down, just because you have an affair doesn't mean you wont be good in politics. He is probably not the only politician out there that has affairs and he probably wont be the last. I say its ridiculous that he should resign because of mistakes he did in his personal life. Let the man do his job
This is a comment in regards to Camii’s response:
ReplyDeleteI believe that a public figure must show themselves as a morally focused individual. They are constantly being watched and their actions are setting an example for all Americans. They are to represent our region to America. I believe that having an affair, whether it is a first time or not is WRONG. For every action there is a consequence and I think we all know what Mr. Ensign’s consequence is.
Today in our society, morals are dissolving and people have the wrong mind set. Excusing John for his wrong actions makes the previous statement that much stronger. People need to draw a thick line between what is right and what is wrong. Having a figure that promotes wrong morals is bringing our country down. He is a hypocrite and he is not what America needs for a role model!
This is in response to Andrea Castandeda's comment.
ReplyDeleteI would like to begin by stating that there a world of difference between President Clinton's situation and Senator Ensign's. I have never said that President Clinton should have been impeached for cheating along. I have, however, made derogatory comments in regards to his infidelity. The difference is, while John Ensign is a senator, Bill Clinton was the President of the United States.
Another key difference is that Bill Clinton did, in fact, commit perjury. John Ensign, on the other hand, confessed to his misdeed rather than looking into the pseudo-eye of the American people and flat out lying. In the end, both men committed a terrible offense which I myself find inexcusable and disgusting. The difference is (as it always has been) that President Clinton not only cheated, but lied.
1. John Ensign is currently the U.S. Senator of Nevada.
ReplyDelete2. He was first elected on November 7, 2000 then was re-elected on November 2006
3. In 2000, Ensign was the congressman
4. In the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, John Ensign voted for the impeachment of Bill Clinton
5. On June 16, 2009 senator ensign admitted to an extramarital affair with a campaign staffer, Cynthia Hampton . It is said that he admitted his affair to the public because the husband of his mistress had sent a letter to Fox News urging them to expose him.
6.First I think he should apologize for what he did, it was hypocritical because a few years before, when Clinton was in office, he voted to get him impeached because of the affair he had with Monica Lewinsky. In one word he is a hypocrite, and he should feel ashamed for doing that. He needs to apologize to the public and Doug Hampton, the husband of his mistress. He should then resign because if he lied about that, what else has he been lying about?
I personally think that that is morally wrong because if you are with somebody and you truly love them there is no reason why you should have an affair. And as far as the title, “hypocrite or human?” I don’t think its human, it is not in our nature to cheat and that is just in my opinion. I understand people do make mistakes but there is a difference between a mistake and being hypocritical, and that’s what he did.
I would like to comment regarding Saul’s point of view. Saul I agree with you completely I mean okay he did what he did, it was something big, he had an affair, he did something he shouldn’t had that would bring problems with his wife, and so on. But that wouldn’t make him bad in politics. I believe the professional work of someone is way more important than the personal life. As many people even quote “90% people don’t care about anybody’s problem and 10% are glad they have them”. So I don’t know why the media is making a big scandal over this. I know that he voted to impeached Mr. Clinton. But, I believe it’s pointless that this is even argue in politics.
ReplyDeleteLike you said Ensign is good in politics and that’s what matter’s the most. There are a lot of politicians out there that have affairs but they stayed quiet so they wont get put in the center of attention. For me, this is only between himself and his own family. In matter of fact, though I do respect everyone’s opinions and I see the reason’s why your perspective’s are coming from.
I would also like to comment Cami’s (sneakerheadcamii) post. I agree what you say, its true I believe he should apologize and recognize what he did was a unacceptable. But, this is a lesson learned and he has learn. It’s better to not judge other’s action’s and I believe this is what Ensign recognize. Because you may get to say “never” but it may come all back around to you. I also believe this was just a human act.
ReplyDeleteNot everybody is perfect and we all do mistakes. This is what some people should have in mind. Overall, Cami your comment was well explained and I stand as you said if another action like this he commit’s then for me he would also fall in that category. But, in the mean time he is a man that recognize his mistakes and learned his lesson. After all, the professional outlook of someone is more important than what they do outside of the business.
1. John Ensign is the U.S. Senator of Nevada.
ReplyDelete2.He was first elected to his seat on November 7, 2000.
3. Prior to being Senator, he held a position in the U.S. House of Representives.
4.During the Clinton-Lewinsky sacandal he wanted to impeach President Bill Clinton. He said that such scandal could not have been tolerated.
5.John ensign admitted to have an affair with his friend and member of campaign staff. He admitted to the affair because he said he was been blackmail.
6.John Ensign cannot do much about his affair. It already happened and it cannot be changed. He is like any other person who has flaws. Unfortunately, many people can think they are perfect, but to be sincere perfection is just made up. John Ensign should not be impeached from his position because his personal life should not affect his political life. The affair anyone could of had a mistake.
He voted to impeach Bill Clinton because of his affair; however, he did not realize he could have made the same mistake. He judged, he accused Clinton of the affair, but if he gets a reality check he is on the same spotlight now. Clinto was given a second chance, then should Ensign get one too? Yes, why? Simple, he's human, he has feelings and he obviously felt in temptation eventhough he should not have. If everyone gave Clinton the opportunity to become President then John Ensign should definately have the same privilege. Now, I believe Ensign regrets his actions towards Clinton. So, humans are humans and have their flaws, but they should also get respected.
This comment is directed towards chikita.bebe84 I agree with your statement that "many people think they are perfect, but to be sincere perfection is just made up". What John Ensign did was just human because as you pointed out "humans are humans and have their flaws". What he did was just a plain human act and should be forgiven, whats done is done nothing you can do about it now.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that John Ensign should be given a second chance as the opportunity was presented to former President Bill Clinton. Although ensign voted to impeach Clinton, he did get a reality check now. People judge when affairs come out its just natural, but nobody really plans to have one themselves. I believe it was just a bit of karma that he found himself in the same situation. But either way he should be forgiven and should remain at his post.
This comment is regards to Chynna:
ReplyDeleteI agree with her. If someone is made a mistake they sure deserve a second chance. Personal life does not go well with work. Both are opposites and should not be mixed together. I also agree that no one can be perfect and that no one will ever be. It simply cannot be done because everyone as human is allow to make mistakes. Besides mistakes are jsut things that we as humans make, but also learn from.
At last when a mistake is made it cannot be erased. He took the responsability and admitted to it. Yes, he is a politician and he has a reputation, but his love life is not part of it. Everyone has the right to have a personal life and the mistakes made there is not the publics business. Plus she is right, he gave us something new to talk about.
I will like to comment on Cesar. I disagree with him. He says that John Ensign should get impeached, but why? I mean, yeah he had an affair and admitted to it just because he was being blackmailed. He is human and I do not think someone else is capable of taking his place. He has the experience needed and what happened was just a bump in the road.
ReplyDeleteCesar, if you were in a similar situation would you like to judge like he is being right now? Well, I know I wouldn't. Here's an example you got to school and you focus on your work, but when you have emotional problems do you let them get on your way? I don't think, so humans have flaws like I have said. ANYONE can make a mistake, but ANYONE can have another chance. Don't you think?
1. John Ensign is the U.S. Senator of Nevada.
ReplyDelete2. On November 7th, 2000 he was elected.
3. He was a member of the U.S. House of Representives before becoming Nevadas senator.
4. He voted for impeachment of former president Clinton in the Clinton-Lewinsky case.
5. Due to excessive blackmail through Fox News, John Ensign forcefully admitted to having an affair with a member of his campaign staff.
6. Far most importantly, John Ensign should apologize to his public for commiting such a hypocritical embarrasment. He should ensure his followers that this mistake is shamed upon and he will do anything in his power to regain their trust, although he may not stay in office long enough to prove himself. It is all about public appearance and the way he deals with the matter that will help him gain victory through this.
John Ensign needs to make sure he does one more thing, find a way to do all his plans for bettering Nevada in a short amount time. Make a difference while he still can and do his job as effictively as possible. Success is in far reach due to his mistake but he can not give up on the plans he once had for our state.
This is in regards to Joey’s response:
ReplyDeleteYou said: “Far most importantly, John Ensign should apologize to his public for commiting such a hypocritical embarrasment. He should ensure his followers that this mistake is shamed upon and he will do anything in his power to regain their trust, although he may not stay in office long enough to prove himself.” I completely agree with this statement. He should apologize. John should worry about his public image because it is definitely hurting right now.
Also, you said: “Make a difference while he still can and do his job as effictively as possible. Success is in far reach due to his mistake but he can not give up on the plans he once had for our state.” I like this aspect of what happened. Instead of simply judging if Mr. Ensign is a hypocrite or human, you talk about what he planned and are encouraging him to follow through. I do think that he should leave, but I suppose while he is still here he can finish off what he planned.
This comment is directed towards Joey's response:
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with everything you said. For some reason public appearance is everything in politics now. What happened to when people judge their leaders by their political actions and not their personal ones. He did apologize to his public for committing the worst type of political mistake, a hypocritical action.
I don't really know that he will be in power for much long but he should still make a difference like you pointed out. He shouldn't give up on the plans he had for our state just because of his personal actions. The best way to prove to people that you are just human, is to do the best you can right now. Lets see if Senator Ensign can better Nevada in a short amount of time.
1)John Ensign is the senator of Nevada.
ReplyDelete2)John was first elected position was to the Senate in Nevada in 2000.
3)Before 2000, he held a position in the House of Representatives.
4) In the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, John Ensign voted for the impeachment of President Bill Clinton.
5) On June 16, 2009, John admitted to his affair with Cynthia Hampton who is a former staffer and close family friend. He admitted to it because Cynthia Hampton’s husband was blackmailing him.
6) In John Ensign’s situation, I would say that he should handle the consequences that follow his actions. He should have not done that. As a leader he has to set the example. He is a role model to people and he should show good morals. Teaching younger generations what is right and wrong is apart of his duty.
1. John Ensign is the senator of Nevada.
ReplyDelete2. He was elected for the position in 2000.
3. He held a position in the House of Representatives prior to becoming Senator of Nevada.
4. John Ensign voted for the impeachment of President Clinton in the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal.
5. John Ensign admitted to having an affair with one of his campaign staffers on June 16, 2009. It is thought to believe he did this because his mistress's husband was blackmailing him.
6. John Ensign should definitely apologize for what he did. Not only is it wrong, it is redundant, and this is coming from OUR senator. He needs to comply with the consequences of his actions. That will show he has a sense of responsibility and integrity. Many people might change their views about him and judge him based on one thing and how he handled it. He must now fulfill his obligations and set the example in the future.
1)John Ensign is the 24th U.S. Senator of Nevada.
ReplyDelete2)John Ensign was first elected into U.S. Senate November 7, 2000.John Ensign was actually re-elected in November 2006.
3)Before being Senator in 2000 he was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. He held this office from 1995-1999.
4)John Ensign voted for the impeachment of President Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky case.
5)John Ensign actually admitted to having an affair. In a article I read it stated that he didn’t want the blackmailers holding revenge on him so that’s why he admitted to it.
6)In my opinon John Ensign should first buy his wife something nice and try to make it up to her because that is seriously messed up. Seriously John Ensign should first resign from office because he is a big hypocrite and a liar. He lied to us and made himself look like an idiot to the american people.
Also, John Ensign should pick up the phone and call Bill Clinton and apologize and be like sir I am very sorry. (Maybe Bill Clinton should hold a press conference and be like let’s vote to get rid of that guy. ) Also, in all seriousness he should just aplogize to everybody and get out of office. He is a disgrace and a hypocrite. That is my opinion.

ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with you more because John Ensign should be disgraced of what he did. He lied to all of us and destroyed his repuation. You said that he should apologize because he should. He is a a hypocrite and he should stop judging people because he propably will end up doing what they did.
Also, I don't know about his family being disgraced though because I know if this were someone in my family I would totally go out to eat with them and all them family. Because family is the most important but that's all I disagree about in your sentence. I think he should resign and quit being a hypocrite.

ReplyDeleteWhen I read your opinion you make me want to think it's ok. Like when you say it's in his personal life and it should stay personal. It shouldnt affect him. My opinion is that he is a hypocrite but you made me think about it in his perspective and what if I did that. I believe you are totally right because I wouldn't do anything either.
On the other hand I really think that what he did was bad but you kinda made me in the middle on this decision. I really thought he should resign but after reading your opinion I believe he should stay in office because you made such a compelling argument. Good job.

ReplyDeleteI want to know what you mean by the consequences of his actions because I didn't know it was against the law to have an affair? Im not disagreeing with you but I want to know what are the actual consequences. Are there even any consequences besides the ones with his wife?
I agree with you when you say that he is a leader and he needs to set the example. Because what if a man cheats on his wife and a guy was like well John Ensign did it and he didn't get in trouble. He needs to teach younger generations that it's not right to do this because it's breaking a vow and that's important thing to uphold in a marriage.

ReplyDeleteIn your response you just state that he did wrongfull actions. But I am curious, do you believe that he should resign or still stay in office? You never really gave your opinion on that.
But I do agree that he is a role model to the people of Nevada, and it should be to his right mind to express good morally conduct. But I do not think that part of his job description is to teach younger generations what is right is wrong. His job should entail on government standings, not in raising fundemental values for children.

ReplyDeleteI disagree with your statment saying that he should not do anything. Himself or his lawyers also said "it's not a crime." True, it is not, but just being in a political figure puts you on the spotlight. Doing nothing is not going to solve anything. Especially when he mentioned that this was not as big as what Clinton did. I mean who does that. Just throwing the past out there to remind the people your mistake was nothing compared to others'. Be a responsible human being and live up to your mistakes and take the consequences for them.

ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your response to question 6. It is his obligation to apologize to everyone. Many people look up to him and if he is doing something like this, he must explain that it was wrong and there is nothing he can do to take it back. And how can you go back on your word because now, it is you that is on the hot seat. The circumstances does not change, when it is the same situation. Different people, same situation, same circumstances, should be the same consequences. He just made himself look ridiculous and on top of that, also a hypocrite.
Rafaela,
ReplyDeleteYou are completely right when you say that everybody makes mistakes. It is something that everybody does, but he did something that he could have avoided. He had an affair with one of the people he worked with. And just as Bill Clinton had done so back in June 1995 with the back then 21 year old Monica Lewinsky, he did the same thing. When Clinton did that, he voted to get impeached. Then years later, he had the audacity to do the same thing.
I know I’m not to judge him but what he did was not human but hypocritical. And also the women that he was having the affair with was blackmailing him to tell everybody, she should be ashamed because of that. I do give him consideration for telling everybody what he did and that he was sorry for doing it but like you said he probably would have kept quiet if he didn’t have anybody blackmailing him.
Mekdelawit,
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you when you say that he is a hypocrite, because he is. The fact that he was trying to get ex president Bill Clinton impeached because of having an affair it wrong. It wrong because of the fact that he did the exact same thing. He did was having an affair with not only another staff member but a former family friend.
You are right, people do make mistakes, and they should apologize, only if they know they’re not going to do it again. If they apologize and then do it again then there really was no point in apologizing, cause that shows that you weren’t sorry. In the end, I still think it was very hypocritical of him to do that.
